It´s one of the most talked-about beauty programmes on TV, and now Channel 4´s 10 Years Younger has called upon the expertise of Confidential´s very own beauty columnist, Helen Lewis to help transform yet another haggered, bedraggled, cosmetically defunct candidate, this time from Greater Manchester.

Loved, the advanced skin clinic and beauty spa on Ack Lane in Bramhall, joined up with the popular programme to help transform the look of 50-year-old Marilyn Cooke from Cheadle.
The grandmother of two has been billed as one of the programme’s most remarkable success stories. For Marilyn it was the experience of a lifetime. At 50, she’d been divorced seven years, had worn her hair the same way for 25 years, dressed almost exclusively in black and was a self-confessed sunbed addict. She broke every beauty rule in the book and the results were clear to see.
She said: “On my fiftieth birthday my daughter was determined to give me a makeover, but I never envisaged 10 Years Younger. I loved every minute. When they took off the bandages after surgery everyone else saw the bruises and swelling. I didn’t. I saw the new me underneath and was thrilled.” After Marilyn’s results were so striking and she had such a super-smooth complexion that the production team asked Helen at Loved to bring Marilyn’s décolleté line.
Speaking about the treatment, Marilyn said: “My chest was very dry, dull and crinkly which is what you get when you’ve been a sunbed user for 30 years. It was very different from my new plump, young face so Helen got to work. I was really not expecting to see much of a difference, but after just one session my décolleté was glowing and when I put my arms across my chest to push my boobs together, there was no wrinkling. I was very impressed.”
The Loved team used microdermabrasion techniques (intense skin polishing and exfoliation) on Marilyn’s chest and then used
Ellipse I2PL photo rejuvenation treatment to get rid of the sun damage and improve Marilyn’s skin texture.
Explaining the process, Helen said: “The treatment works by directing pulses of light into the upper skin layer. The light is absorbed by natural pigments in the body which then convert the light energy into heat. This heat is used to destroy the parts of the cells in which the pigment is stored which move up to the surface of the skin and can be exfoliated away.”
The team hit the local area of Stockport to do the programme’s legendary First Age Poll. What followed was a lower face lift, tucks to the top and bottom of the eyes, a chemical peel, botox, fillers and lasering, some extensive cosmetic dentistry plus the décolleté from Loved and then a full hair, fashion and makeup makeover. Only then was Marilyn ready for the Second Age Poll which took place at the Trafford Centre. Not bad for a day´s work. Well perhaps not a day.
Helen Lewis said it was a great opportunity to work with the famous show: “They share my ethos which is to make people feel good about themselves. Marilyn’s new sense of self-worth was brilliant to see.”
